History 1924

How It All Began

In 1924, the first flight on the Kazan-Dashoguz-Khiva route was performed on a Junkers-13 aircraft of the former USSR aviation enterprise "Dobrolyot". Between 1924 and 1970, the first airport of Dashoguz was located in the very center of the city — on the site of the current monument square dedicated to Victory Day. Starting in 1930, flights were operated on the Dashoguz-Ashgabat-Dashoguz route, and from 1940 — Chardzhou-Turtkul-Dashoguz.

Since 1950, passenger and cargo transportation began on Po-2, Li-2, Il-14, and An-2 aircraft to nearby and distant cities, as well as flights to provide medical assistance to the population. Starting in 1968, a new airport named "Yuzhny" began operations on the site of the current airport's aviation technical base, and the 1500x30 meter runway was equipped to accommodate An-24 and An-26 aircraft.

Development and Modernization

In 1970, the base of the Dashoguz city airport was fully transferred to the "Yuzhny" airport, and radio engineering facilities were constructed. In 1972, a new two-story terminal and a 2000x42 meter runway were built and commissioned at the airport. In 1974, to accommodate larger aircraft, the runway was extended by 700 meters to the east.

In 1984, the construction of a new passenger terminal with a capacity of 400 passengers per hour was completely finished and put into operation. Until 1997, flights from Dashoguz airport were operated to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ufa, and other CIS cities on Tu-154, Yak-42, Yak-40, An-24, An-26, and Il-18 aircraft.

Between 2009 and 2010, the Dashoguz International Airport and the "Lachyn" hotel underwent major renovations, creating comfortable conditions for passengers. The terminal is capable of serving 400 passengers per hour, and all conditions for high-class cultural service have been established inside the terminal.

New Era and Capabilities

Near the Dashoguz International Airport, there is a modern 120-bed "Lachyn" hotel to serve passengers. The airport carries out passenger and cargo transportation, provides air navigation services to transit foreign aircraft, and performs agrochemical work on agricultural fields using An-2 aircraft.

With the blessing of our Esteemed President, according to the Decree dated May 17, 2013, commissioned by the State National Service "Turkmenhowayollary", a large-scale project was completed to construct a modern artificial runway and airport facilities. During the construction, a fully equipped concrete runway 3,800 meters long, a new air traffic control building, and a modern control tower were fully built and commissioned.
